Here is your trail report for April 13th…yep, for April 13th. Who wooda thunk!
Skied Raven’s Ridge from P1 to Lunchbox Shelter (in just 38 minutes, my fastest this season), then Gulch to Teiffel’s Landing, and Menzies back to Raven’s and P1. Started at 8 a.m. and was back in the truck driving home by 9:30 a.m. Snow was generally icy and fast, with soft (but not sticky) sections in sheltered areas. Lots and lots of crisp animal tracks, including otters. They’re having a blast body surfing on both Matthews and on Gulch. The ski trails are like white ribbons through the woods, at times no more than a metre wide. Quite magical really. Stay tuned; more ski reports to come. Stay safe.
When I skied Kane Valley on April 1 (fool that I am), I was pretty sure that would be it for the season. Didn’t even bother to post. Not true. Fresh snow last night! Skied today from 10 a.m. to noon. From P2, did Matthew’s Loop West and Kane to January Shelter and back. Started to get sticky in the sun towards the end, but no problem in the shade. An earlier start would have been even better. Still lots of base in most areas. Gonna ski Raven’s Ridge early Tuesday morning. New goal – ski Kane Valley May 1. Yahoo!
Stay safe.
