MEMBERSHIP DRAW – The winner of the Nicola Nordic Ski Club fleece jacket is Jim Ramsey. Congrats Jim! Thanks to all who got their membership paid before December 1st.
ATTENTION SNOW-SHOERS – PLEASE READ THIS Please do NOT snow-shoe on the groomed trails. “Groomed” means any trails that are flattened by our groomer. You are wrecking the trails for the skiers. Our club spends thousands of dollars each year to groom the trails for skiers and it only takes one snow-shoer to wreck the grooming.
Been skiing in the past day or so? Leave us a comment about which route you used, what the trail was like, and anything that needs attention. You can also leave (or respond to) questions on the Kane Valley Trails or about local weather.
We’ll also use these posts to tell you what’s been groomed, what is scheduled to be groomed, and anything else club members and trail users should know about.

Last post for 2015 – a beautiful sunny day on the trails – we skied from P1: Ravens, to Asp and back Menzies – very nice – we pulled a tree off Asp. The groomer seems to be marooned on Ravens, so no new work done there. Temp. was -12 midday. Snow varied from slow to fast. Kane road was widened and sanded today. Happy New Year!
We skied Hills Homestead today. Perfect conditions especially after the sun broke through. 😄 Sheila
-7 degrees & snowing steadily this morning. Fantastic conditions for an early morning ski around Matthews before heading to work today 🙂
Wow 🙂
Mike and I skied January-Kane-Ravine-to Bertha’s Landing this afternoon, simply fantastic !!! Freshly groomed trails and the glide was easy and sweet. Come out and enjoy this wonderful display of nature. The best wellness for a steal of a deal 🙂
Our awesome groomer, groomed and track set all the trails yesterday and completed them today. He has worked tirelessly to groom, remove down trees and check on the t.p. 🙂 Great guy. Thank-you Darren.
The next grooming will be on New Year’s eve day to touch everything up ( unless there is a snow fall from now until then). Enjoy, enjoy.
Shelley – NNSC 🙂
Skied Kane from P5 Dec. 27 – not groomed but absolutely superb new snow and trees loaded with the white stuff like a Christmas card.
Happy Holidays skiers!

Excellent skiing this morning on Matthews Loop, temp. -10 at noon, with a few flurries. Kane Valley has had daily snowfalls recently, with no wind, so the trees are laden with snow and the trails are perfect powder. All the parking lots are plowed out and Kane Valley Road is newly cleared and sanded. Happy skiing!
Excellent skiing again today – three of us did Kane-Ravine-Tolko-SkyHigh loop starting at P5. Velvet snow on nice grooming. Temperatures around -7C.
The only bad note is the damage done to the trails by the snow-shoers – tromped all over Kane, Ravine and going down Sundowner.
Good Morning All: 🙂
Nicola Nordic Grooming Update. All trails groomed and track set and trees removed from areas previously mentioned in last update. NNSC groomer will be out again on December 24th to pretty up the trails for the holiday season. Happy skiing everyone.
Shelley
Ditto – Kate’s message. We skied Hill’s Homestead – if you like velvety powder on top of a softly groomed base, this is it. Tolko Loop and Connector are also groomed. A gorgeous day with temp. at -3, perfect for blue wax. Happy skiing!
Wow !!! We skied today and conditions are perfect. If you are even thinking about skiing, it doesn’t get any better than this. Powder and groomed trails. Truly awesome.
Come out and play and help us keep the skidoo running (thanks Mike and Jim for fixing the groomer!).
Cheers,
Kate and John
PS for a last minute gift idea, it’s $40 for a seasons pass:) Membership info on this site.
Am I safe to ski alone? Are there cougars up there?
Sandra, yes, there are cougars in the area so your safety is never guaranteed. That said, some people do ski alone. Best to be aware of how to behave if you have an encounter (if you have time…)
I lost my car keys while ️️skiing Matthews Loop yesterday. I think I lost them near the snowman as I took my camera out of my pocket there! 250-315-7190. Thanks. ️️Skiing was great, tracks were set and the sun was shining!!⛄️❄️⛄️Thanks Lorna
We skied from P3 up Gulch and Harmon to Panorama for lunch, back via Lunchbox and Vale – a very fast run down on green wax as the temp. was -9 at mid-afternoon. Soft powder on the groomed run for a good ski in beautiful sunshine. The parking lot was not plowed yet.
Good Morning Skiers:)
This is the NNSC grooming update for today. Our groomer has been out for the last 2 days and all the trails are groomed and track-set and he has made them as wide as he can. He reported a small tree down at the top of Matthews Loop and one on Tolko, he is going out this afternoon to remove them, so beware on these two trails if you are out there today.
The sun is shining and it is absolutely beautiful outside at -5.
Mike and I went out yesterday morning and it was so magnificent, We skied Kane P2-P5. It was a bit crunchy under some trees. Marvelous jewel the great outdoors 🙂 Let it snow, let it snow.
~Gentle reminder, No shoeing on any of NNSC trails, there are marked snow shoe trails that have been GPS ( this is not part of NNSC) but done by wonderful people for all of us to enjoy. So no reason to snow shoe on NNSC trails, as there is already a great simple solution in place, gotta love that.

Minus 8 & sunny this morning. Beautiful early morning ski on the recently groomed & trackset trails
We skied Kane, Ravine, Sundowner and Aspen loop today with lots of fresh snow. The groomer is heading out tomorrow (Monday) so we should have great skiing all week. The Kane Valley has lots of snow even though Merritt does not so head up and enjoy the trails.
It’s a winter wonderland up at Kane Valley today. Temp was -1 degree & snowing steady all morning. 2 Inconsiderate (& apparently also blind to all of the new “no snowshoing on trails” signs ) snowshoers have taken a stroll down Menzies & Asp, and I will have to assume Ravens as well.
Maurice and I snowshoed the marked trail from P4 (Starts just behind the outhouse) The first 150 meters has bare patches under some of the big trees but after that it is very good. There was about 2-4 centimeters of new snow. On the upper portions of the trail , in the shade areas, we were in about 25 cm of snow. This trail which we call Frizzy’s Folly takes about 2 hours if you go the complete route, which is all flagged and signed. With the 2-4 cm of new snow and the temperature at minus 2 Celsius, I think the cross-country skiing would be good as well. Noone had skied on the trails that we crossed.
About 3″ fresh snow at Kane this a.m. but temps above zero. Snowshoing was great, met some skiers at Matthews Shelter who said the snow was sticky . . . that was at 9:30 a.m.! Sun was coming out by the time I was leaving at 11:30.
Maurice and I skied from P5 to Aspen, down to Harmon Lake. We returned by Bertha and then home by Kane. The snow is very good but there are a few rocks starting to show. Hunters had driven trucks part way up from Harmon Lake along Aspen but it did not bother the skiing too much. The air temperature was minus 3 so hopefully the existing snow will stay.
