Kane Valley Trail conditions December 2012

Kane Valley skiing is on! Grooming is just starting and it will take a while to get trails into top shape so please be patient, but there is great snow for skiing.

We’ll also use these posts to tell you what’s been groomed, what is scheduled to be groomed, and anything else club members and trail users should know about.

Another great ski day with conditions like yesterday – fast and fluffy! We skied Hill’s Homestead from P5 – didn’t meet anyone on the trail except Santa at the lake having his tea and cookies. Snowing hard the last hour, so now there is at least 2 inches of snow on top of the flat-grooming and it’s still snowing. Happy Christmas!

  2. Andrea Lawrence says:

It was super skiing today in winter wonderland, no wind, temp. -8 which was perfect for fast, fluffy snow. We skied Matthews with the dog and then Vale and Gulch – the trails were flat-groomed without tracking and have an inch of powder on top since yesterday. Very soft, lovely snow. Ace conditions! The road and all parking lots are plowed out. The P3 weasel poked out to greet us.

I’ve never seen a white ferret in the Kane Valley, but we did see what I’m fairly sure was a least weasel (Mustela nivalis) in it’s winter coat at the P# parking lot a few days ago.

Nice skiing today – it warmed up to around -3 with a wind and the snow was soft. I skied Vale, Ravens and Tillicum. The trails are a bit rough now, partly skier-tracked and partly skidoo-packed before the groomer comes out. The road is plowed and sanded but P3 is not plowed out, however it is vehicle-packed. Lots of ice-fishers on the lakes so watch the traffic.

Skiing is on! We had a super, sparkling- snow ski today, no wind, trees laden with new snow and powder 6-8 inches deep on the trail from P3 up Gulch to Lunchbox and down Vale. Grooming hasn’t started yet, but we’ve set a nice skier track and the base is solid because the earlier snowfalls were in wet, warm weather. Today’s temp. was -18 in the morning and went up to around -8 to make perfect ski conditions. As of today Kane Valley Rd. and the parking lots were not yet plowed out – a 4×4 is best.

  14. Alan says:

Good skiing today in the Kane Valley – more to come.

  15. Kate Anderson says:

Lots of snow, great ski today.

  16. Alan says:

Bharat – there is not yet enough snow in the Kane Valley to allow grooming. Maybe soon – it was snowing today and more is forecast. Keep watching this blog and we’ll post something as soon as skiing is possible.
